4 reasons to update to iOS 17.1 NOW

The last one is reason enough on it’s own!

Apple have just released iOS and iPadOS 17.1. Some new features you should know about!

AirDrop transfers continue over cellular

Content continues to transfer over the internet when you step out of AirDrop range.
The super handy AirDrop features on modern iOS devices is brilliant, but if you are sending a large file you have to wait for it to finish before you move out of proximity of the sender. With the iOS 17.1 update the transfer can optionally continue over the internet if you leave the same Wi-Fi network as the sender.

Apple Music Favourites system

The new favourite system replaces the previous “Love” system, allowing users to favourite songs, albums, playlists, and artists. This feature aims to improve music recommendations and facilitate quick access to favoured content. Additionally, iOS 17.1 introduces colour-matched playlist artwork options.

Hopefully this will make the Apple “For you” playlists even better than they are already.

The full list of changes is given as:
• Favorites expanded to include songs, albums and playlists, and you can filter to display your favorites in the library.
• New cover art collection offers designs that change colors to reflect the music in your playlist.
• Song suggestions appear at the bottom of every playlist, making it easy to add music that matches the vibe of your playlist.

Photo Shuffle for Lock Screen

A new feature named Photo Shuffle can be accessed on your iPhone’s lock screen. To locate it, simply press and hold on the lock screen, tap the plus icon, and then select Photo Shuffle.

In the past, the options were confined to using Apple-provided galleries – curated from themed, featured images within your Photos gallery – or a collection of manually selected pictures. However, with the iOS 17.1 update, you now have the flexibility to choose specific albums for shuffling. Make up an album of your favourite photos and have a random one greet you every time you unlock your phone!

Major iOS 17.1 security fixes

There are a slew of security fixes in this update and some of them are pretty serious vulnerabilities. The details of this can be read at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213982

There are several that allow apps to “execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges” and a few that state “Processing web content may lead to arbitrary code execution” which sound pretty severe. Get yourself updated now!
