2021 Christmas Geek Gift Guide

Posted by Colin on Fri, Nov 19, 2021

Got a geek / nerd in your life? Then they might appreciate some (or all!) of the following things. I have some of these, others are things I would like, and some are things that I know fellow geeks would love.

You know your geek better than me, so these are just ideas :)

Audio / Video Kit

Amazon Fire Stick 4K (with TV Controls)

We have one of these to replace an older Fire Stick and the TV controls is worth it alone! One remote to rule them all.

Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen

Tiny little speaker and huge sound quality upgrade over the previous ones. On offer at the moment with Black Friday deals and for just extra £7 you can grab an Amazon smart plug to control with it.

Anker Soundcore Noise Cancelling Headphones

Lovely set of wireless headphones with noise cancelling. Perfect for your anti-social geek who just wants to block out all the humans so they can focus on their weird hobby in peace!

Retroflag GPICase

This little case looks a lot like a Gameboy. But with extra buttons. You can pop a Raspberry Pi Zero (or even better, the brand new Raspberry Pi Zero 2) into this and make yourself a handheld retro gaming device. Play all the old Sega Megadrive and Super Nintendo classics on the go and re-live the glory days of gaming! I have one of these and love it, and with the Pi Zero 2 in it the games load much faster and I can run some system that were previously unavailable.

Lego

Most geeks will enjoy building things and Lego fits the bill here. Great for all ages and can be very calming almost meditative activity. And once they are built they make for excellent desk ornaments to show off your inner geek. Just search for Lego Star Wars and you should be good to go :)

Darth Vader Lego Helmet

Smart Home

SonOff Smart WiFi Switch Mini

This little gizmo is a wifi controlled relay. If you are happy enough working with electricity, this cheap gadget can make your existing lights smart with Alexa control and still allow the original light switch to work for the “normal” people in the house.

Big Gifts

If you really really really like your geek, here are some bigger gifts they might like.

Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Reality Headset

Played with one of these briefly in work that a colleague brought in. It is really cool. Hard to describe but really interesting and perhaps a glimpse into the future of the Metaverse (whatever that means).

Kindle Paperwhite

I read a lot on my iPad but I find if I want to read without distractions, the Kindle is far superior. Much easier to read outdoors as well and waterproof! Something about reading on a dedicated eBook reader just feels different.

DJI Mini 2 Drone

This little drone is under 250g so it doesn’t require a lot of tests and licences to fly. It produces great quality video and is really stable in flight. Be sure to go for the “Fly More” bundle as it just makes everything about it significantly better.

Whatever you decide to get for your geek (or yourself) just have a great Christmas. I think we all deserve one.
